We are now looking for a new team member to join ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) in Stockholm. We are looking for a Junior Experts in Food-,Water- and Vector-borne/ Zoonotic Diseases. . You will work as a Junior Experts in Food-,Water- and Vector-borne/ Zoonotic Diseases and within that Unit the Vaccine-preventable diseases section. You will report to the Head of Section Food-water-vector-borne and zoonotic dieseases and support a range of activities related to food-, water-, vector-borne, and zoonotic diseases (FOVEZ). You will be employed by Randstad and work with ECDC, this is a temporary assignment starting in the middle of January 2026 until the 21 mars of 2026 but the position is likely to continue beyond summer 2026. It is a requirement that you are based in Sweden or can relocate here immediately. No remote work (from another country/city) is possible for this position.

The task includes:
1. Outbreak Detection and Monitoring
Work under the guidance of an outbreak response expert to support to help identify and monitor disease outbreaks across Europe by participating in daily and weekly monitoring activities. This includes:
- Food- and water-borne diseases (e.g. Salmonellosis, Listeriosis)
- Vector-borne diseases (e.g. West Nile virus infection, dengue, chikungunya, Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever)
- Legionellosis
Key tasks:
- Monitor disease events using EpiPulse, ECDC’s online platform for sharing outbreak information.
- Follow up on outbreaks that may affect multiple countries.
- Report findings in internal coordination meetings.
2. Disease Surveillance Support
Work under the guidance of a surveillance expert to support the annual collection and analysis of disease data from EU countries. This includes:
- Helping organise data calls (requests for data from countries)
- Monitoring and validating the data received
- Performing deeper analysis when needed and contributing to written reports
3. Scientific Advice and Information Gathering
Support the development of scientific advice by:
- Conducting literature reviews on diseases, pathogens, or vectors (e.g. mosquitoes or ticks)
- Communicating findings clearly to support internal decision-making or public health guidance
4. Technical meeting organisation
Support the organisation and conduction of technical meetings, for instance though the preparation of background documents, the contribution to the expert identification and agenda drafting and, when relevant, the chairing of some sessions of the meeting.
Competences and experience
In addition to the profile specification, these specific competences and experience are required for the current assignment:
- Knowledge of relevant disease areas
- Basic understanding of food- and water-borne diseases, vector-borne diseases and/or Legionellosis.
- Scientific writing and communication
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Ability to write clear, structured, and professional scientific reports, summaries, and technical documents.
- Understanding of epidemiological methods (such as data analysis, interpretation and other epidemiological concepts)
- Data analysis and statistical software proficiency
- Basic skills in using R or Stata for epidemiological data analysis and visualization.
- Foundational knowledge in microbiology and/or entomology
- While not mandatory, familiarity with microbiological or entomological aspects of infectious diseases (e.g. pathogens, vectors) is considered an asset.
