qualifications
In addition to the profile specification, these specific competences and experience are required for the current assignment:- Good understanding of existing surveillance systems and processes.
- Understanding and maybe some exposure to surveillance data collection, analysis and interpretation/assessment.
- Preferably the person should have previous working experience with EVDs; if not a wish to learn about these diseases is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to wrote scientific reports in English.
- Good MS Office skills, some basic knowledge of R would be an asset.
key responsibilities
Tasks:- Cover surveillance activities related to emerging and vector-borne diseases (EVDs).
- Support the collection, validation, analysis, interpretation and sharing of epidemiological data on mandatory notifiable EVDs e.g. tick-borne encephalitis, dengue, malaria.
- Based on the data collected, he/she will write EVD chapters for the annual epidemiological report.
- Participate in the seasonal surveillance of West Nile virus for Europe (weekly data collection, analysis) and support the production of weekly epidemiological summaries that will be published on ECDC website. Those updates are used primarily by blood safety authorities to defer blood donors returning from West Nile virus affected areas.
- Participation in other activities of the Emerging, Food and Vector-borne Diseases group, as needed.
