Behavioural studies in transgenic mouse models
Thesis project: 30 or 60 credits
Student location: AstraZeneca, Gothenburg, Sweden
Start: January 2022
Supervisors: Therése Admyre
Do you have experience of and interest in working with mouse models? Would you like to apply your expertise to improve the way we work with transgenic mice in a company that follows the science and actively tries to refine the conditions in our in vivo studies? Then this Master thesis project at AstraZeneca might be of interest to you!
AstraZeneca and Discovery Sciences
You will join the transgenic mouse model group which sits within the Discovery Science function at AstraZeneca Gothenburg. Within the transgenic unit, we aim to ensure the group is at the scientific forefront of transgenic mouse generation and phenotypic characterization. The work in the transgenic unit is mainly based on internal collaborations with different therapy areas within AstraZeneca but also external collaborations, resulting in several publications over the last years.
The main focus of the role will be to perform behavioural studies in transgenic models aimed at improving the way the we work with mice with regard to the 3R principles of replacement, reduction and refinement in animal studies. You will learn how to evaluate the home cage behaviour of the mice and you will also have access to all relevant equipment to measure behaviours such as locomotion, anxiety, learning and memory. As a Thesis worker you will become a part of our in vivo team with experts in behavioural and metabolic phenotyping, genuinly interested in sharing their knowledge and work together to improve the conditions of the transgenic mice.
- Experience of hands-on work with mice
- Excellent team working and communicative skills
- Well-organised and focused mindset
- Approved Laboratory Animal Science (LAS) course is an advantage
